The last two backups I have tried to make -- from within Windows 10 -- have failed verify and have forced a backup from bootup of rescue media.

The error log is below.  As this is the second time, it would be helpful to discover why the failures.

That is indicating a VSS error, open Reflect and try running Fix VSS errors under 'Other tasks'

Unless I'm missing something I see no indication of a VSS error.  The image is not verifying which would indicate to me that there is another problem at play here.  Since you were apparently able to successfully create and verify an image via the rescue media I would start by looking into possible software or driver problems in Windows.  Have you tried temporarily disabling any antivirus software?  Antivirus software seems to cause a lot of problems and since it's a simple thing to do that's where I'd start.  A fail to verify could very easily mean a bad source or destination drive (running CHKDSK might shed some light on this being a possible issue,) bad memory or any number of other hardware issues as well.  I do not know well enough how much differently the rescue media works to understand why it might make it through without error when the full version did not.  Perhaps it doesn't use as much memory and a bad memory location wasn't utilized?  Perhaps it's just a coincidence.  I would probably run a memory check as well.  If you have a different destination drive to use for the image you could try that for testing purposes as well.  In case @Sheltieuk understands something I do not, you could check out the VSS Log entry in Reflect to check for any errors it might show as too.

This one seems to me it could be a tough one to track down.  I only share where I personally would start with trying to troubleshoot.  I'll be surprised if you don't soon receive a lot more information from folks more knowledgeable than me as well.
