Sometimes, if I restore certain differential backups, my icons appear all down the left side as tho something has reset them (or their location on the screen has been forgotten)

It doesn't happen in every restore point.

What would be the reason for this and how can i avoid it?

I have also noticed this when I do a full image restore.  This didn't start with 7.1.x because I have been experiencing it since 7.0.x was released but couldn't say which build.  It's not a big deal... just strange.

I remember reading some release notes about I think Win10 Creators where Microsoft said they’d added some extra code to make Windows smarter about icon placement, especially when switching between display resolutions and quantities, so this isn’t as simple as just data recording the coordinates of each icon anymore. I’ve even found my icons rearranged after reboots sometimes. I doubt Reflect has any responsibility for this or ability to fix it.

Thanks,
I found a simple tool that will remember the icon layout and I can recover quickly if i need to.
Nevertheless, I am curious to understand why some differential backups behave themselves, and others lose the icon locations.
There must be some condition that causes it at backup time.

^ I set my dad up with that application. Not pretty, but definitely gets the job done.
