As I expect many of you have already noted, Outlook 2016 does not have a way to "Backup" the Accounts (e-mail account info).  Nor is there a built in backup furntion in Outlook 2016. Add that to Outlook 2016's propensity to become corrupted and/or crash; and I have spent approximately 1 month out of 12 having to reinstall it over and over again.
What I want to know is:  if I backup a working copy of Outlook 2016 (that already has all of the account information filled in) say from my laptop; and then redeploy/restore it to my Desktop. Thereby overworking the non-functional copy of Outlook 2016 that is already on my desktop?
Other than the Outlook 2016 folder...are there any other folders I need to backup..so that a working copy of Outlook can be restored/deployed?
Thanks In Advance!
Paul

AFAIK it still stores everything (mail, addresses, appointments, etc.) in .PST and .OST files, does it not?  If so, you could simply copy them to a safe location or locations.

Hi
I use Outlook 2016 and rarely have a problem with my .pst file. Perhaps once a year I need to run scanpst.exe found in the 'Microsoft Office' folder within 'Program Files' on C drive to repair my .pst file. Have you tried scanpst.exe to repair a .pst file?
Coming back to your request, you should have no problem in creating a file and folder backup of your .pst file on your laptop and then copy or restore the file to your desktop computer or even just copy the file from laptop to desktop renaming the old file and replace with the laptop file.
To create a file and folder backup: http://knowledgebase.macrium.com/display/KNOW/Backing+up+files+and+folders
To restore a file and folder backup: http://knowledgebase.macrium.com/display/KNOW/Restoring+a+file+and+folder+backup
To mount a backup in Windows Explorer so a file can be copied into the desktop as an alternative to restoring a file and folder backup: :http://knowledgebase.macrium.com/display/KNOW/Browsing+Macrium+Reflect+images+and+backups+in+Windows+Explorer
Hope this helps
Regards, et

Sorry to reopen this topic but I'm having serious trouble with Outlook 2016 when restoring with Reflect.

I get several issues:
1. On opening, either I am told Outlook has to close because the pst file is corrupted and suggests I scan and fix it,
2. OR, I get a message saying the current data is not the same as on the server and that Outlook needs to close,
3. OR, Outlook runs and recovers mails from the server but not my sent messages.

Worst of all, and this affects me seriously because I use this machine to run my companies with, all mails received since the time of the last daily backup are lost. That can amount to as many as 100 mails and contain payment details for sales generated.

With Outlook 2007, it was possible to run a backup at the time of the crash (or whatever reason you have for restoring to a previous image), and after restoration simply mount the latest backup as a virtual drive and import the missing messages. As far as I can see, that is no longer possible with Outlook 2016 because it only offers the option of importing files. Is there something I'm missing here?

Also, is there any way to exclude Outlook from restoration so that no changes are made to it?

No, I don't think it does. The .PST files remain the same size. I am told that when you open Outlook it syncs with the server and your mails are displayed from there.

I actually tried backing up the .PST files (Outlook and Archive) then copying the backup over after restoration. That resulted in Outlook claiming the local data was older than that on the server and that I should close Outlook and delete all .OST files so that Outlook could create new ones when next opened.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that has noticed how many problems MS have created since moving our data to the cloud. For example, Office applications regularly crashing when trying to save a document or insert images.
