Hi
I have checked thread https://forum.macrium.com/41387/Backup-aborted-Unable-to-read-from-disk-Error-Code-21-The-device-is-not-ready.
However I want to raise similar issue here to get some suggestions for troubleshooting.
Customer set up:
1.    Windows 10 latest version at Lenovo desktop.
2.    Disks: Samsung 870 SATA SSD for system disk and internal SATA HDD for backup.
3.    No USBs connected, only above two SATA disks.
4.    Macrium home 8 latest version , full backup every Tuesday, incremental every Thursday

In this setup customer is intermittently observing this error – 3 times within last 4 months.
I dialed in to customer 17.11, updated to latest version of macrium and ran incremental backup without issue.
But again today 28.11 issue occurred during full backup.
I doubt there are issues with this Samsung SSD from July 2022, but I have not yet run chkdsk c: \f or chkdsk c: \r \f.
So far I have only observed this issue at this customer desktop, not at any other customer.
Any suggestions?

For the records, the incremental backups seem to be on Fridays.

The sucessful full backups end at 14:11 except the last one at 14:12. The failures happen at 14:07 14:02 and 14:05 respectively. This itself looks random, and such seems to be the error 21 itself as far as I've searched (the system can do incrementals and it was able to complete a full anyway). So I think there's no "hard" reason for this, something has weakened but not broken. And for error 21 concretely it seems to be "stress". One says that (heavy I suppose) fragmentation can cause it, others tell to "reduce the I/O load" (this is a quite frequent advice).

I don't have experience fixing "analog" problems in digital complex systems by phone. If it were my system I'd know what could be "stressing" it if there's anything clear, otherwise I'd try replacing drivers, replacing disks, trying other ports,... to see if the issue is hardware or software.

Is there any additional info in the Windows Event Viewer?
If it were my desktop, I'd be trying a different SATA port for the drive being imaged but I gather this is a "remote" installation.
Doing a chkdsk is a good idea.

Not sure if this is significant or not:   All of the OP's partitions have the same Volume ID.  How is this kosher?  I checked my UEFI disks, and the volumes are different.

Hi Dan
I checked some of the other log files and you see same pattern there. So I don't think this is an issue.

Update 240118 with WA:
Even though I still do not know the root cause for this issue, it seems that rescheduling online backup to a less busy timeslot can be used as a WA. This is in line with this article from MSP360 https://kb.msp360.com/standalone-backup/general/device-not-ready#.
So in this case issue is not related to the disk, which has passed all the tests proposed.
If/when I get an update from Macrium R&D I will update this thread.
