Ok, the version policy has changed. What about the the free version, has it been discontinued?

I asked this question in a roundabout way in another thread but didn't hear back.  So thanks to OP for asking, and thanks as well for the clarification from Macrium.

Well, one of the competitors even offers Universal Restore in its free edition NOW! (AOMEI Backupper Changelog v2.5):
> Added universal restore: allow you to restore a system backup image created on one computer to another with different/dissimilar hardware.
>
enable you to restore/clone system from MBR (BIOS-based) disk to GPT (UEFI-based) disk and vice versa....

Did you notice what features it is missing?  Scheduled backups, for one.  Kia offers a 10 year warranty on its cars.  Honda only offers 3 years. Honda outsells Kia 7 to 1.  Do you think pointing out to Honda that Kia's warranty is longer will induce them to extend their warranty?  Almost every product has pros and cons.  A product is seldom just one feature.

The scheduling service is not missing, of course:
http://www.backup-utility.com/features/schedule-backup.html

However, I don't use scheduled backups. Once I messed up my system, then I started Acronis TI to restore it, but it overwrote the good backup with the messed-up system :-P

If you're happy with "freeware" for backup purposes, by all means choose the one that best suits your own needs and priorities.  I wouldn't advise holding one's breath, however, waiting for Macrium to give away every feature in versions of its software that other users seem very willing to pay for and have, in many cases, switched from other brands to get.

Did I notice some marketing propaganda? Well, Arvy, you're from the US? This kind of pseudo-friendly, superficial statement is typical of US people, I'm afraid. However, back to the topic.

At home I need just a simple, but reliable °Backup-Software°. Apart from full-backup, I appreciate "universal restore"  and reliability, of course. That's why I try out macrium reflect at the moment. I also use ShadowProtect (educational license) which we use at work and which is far ahead of macrium when it comes to networking environments.

All I want to say is: I hope the free version of macrium reflect 6.x won't be too restricted if you compare it with AOMEI Backupper... (We don't compare cars here. By the way, German cars are the best!)

I wish macrium reflect would support the "windows to go" functionality like AOMEI does. Will it be possible to include the universal restore aka redeploy feature within a "windows to go" rescue media?? That would be a real surprise!!
