I am running Windows 11 and attempting to generate a desktop shortcut in Reflect 8.
Although the process of generation apperars to work, the actual shortcut does not appear on my desktop.

After creating a shortcut, try right clicking on your Desktop (Some blank space other than on a shortcut already on the Desktop.) and choose Refresh.  Do the shortcuts appear then?

Are you trying to create a shortcut to launch the program or a definition file shortcut to start a backup?

Check the actual Desktop folder on your file system rather than the "graphical" desktop, i.e. C:\Users\YourUsername\Desktop. Do you see the shortcut there?

Also, do you use OneDrive to back up your desktop, in which case your desktop will be redirected to a Desktop folder within OneDrive rather than the standard folder?

Thanks to all respondents to my orginal issue which has now been solved.
It was my lack of understanding regarding W11 desktop icons; I have admit not knowing about the 'show desktop icons' as a result of the right click on a desktop free space - its certainly different than W10.
I'll now crawl back in my little hole!!
