Yesterday I did a clean build on a test system of the Tiny11 windows 11 build as 3 of my 5 machines don't meet the Microsoft requirements for windows 11 and I thought I'd give the stripped down version a try..

Everything has gone well.  I have installed various apps including macrium figuring an early backup was a good choice.

My backup seems fine.  I was able to browse the backup.

But when I tried to get in to the rescue on a regular boot, it failed.  I solved that by removing the boot menu and rebuilding.  So I was then able to boot in to rescue.  But I couldn't see the backups which are on an external drive network share, different computer.  The network didn't seem to be present even though I had set it up in windows / macrium network config..  I also built a USB boot and the same thing happened.  The USB boot went fine, but no network.

I did this a couple times and forced the WIM rebuild with no success.

Finally instead of WINRE, I switched to WIN PE 11 (WADK).  That worked and while watching it build it seemed quicker and smaller.

I've always used WINRE in the past.  I don't know if Tiny11 removes something critical or not.  But I figured I'd post this and see what others thought.

Is there any downside to the WIN PE 11?

Thoughts on why WINRE wouldn't work?

The WinPE has a basic driver build, the WinRE has all the drivers that your System contains.  If the PE works on that System, it's the better approach as far as I'm concerned... I have always used the PE approach with my Systems.

Given that is the case, any thoughts as to why PE works and RE does not?

Just a thought, but WinRE Rescue Media is built off of the recovery media contained in the WINRETOOLS partition, as far as I know.  It's possible this Tiny11 Windows 11 build, which I am totally unfamiliar with, does not create a WINRETOOLS partition.  If the partition doesn't exist, I would say it's impossible to build WinRE media from it, for obvious reasons.  So, preconfigured drivers, etc. for your system that would be in the WinRE Rescue Media wouldn't exist.
