Thank you @dbminterI have successfully run an Incremental backup of my SSD without any BSOD, adding to the Full made with 8.0 shortly before the upgrade to 8.1. It certainly appeared to be faster with 8.1. I do have the 'cannot eject usb HDD' issue, but I can live with that until the next patch.

If I had to hazard a guess, the unable to Eject USB devices is related to CBT. So, not everyone may encounter it if they don't have CBT enabled for a partition on a particular USB HDD device. I came across an issue about 2 weeks ago with a CBT update in an 8.1 beta where Disk Management said partitions were in use when trying to remove drive letters from them when they were, in fact, not in use. An update to CBT fixed that, but I wonder if there were some other related issues I didn't catch.

Is the boot issue related to the CBT driver or something else?

+xIs the boot issue related to the CBT driver or something else? That I don't know. I didn't ask if the people who had reported it also had installed CBT on their set ups. I would doubt it's related, but CBT is something that starts on Windows boot.

Did you go into Add/Remove Programs to update the Reflect installation, uninstall the CBT option, and restart Windows? Disabling CBT for a partition partition or even all partitions on a USB device may not be enough to get CBT's hooked in functions to clear out. It may be necessary to uninstall CBT entirely and restart.

After weighing up the pros and cons I decided to reinstall CBT after that though.

After uninstalling CBT and restarting and you could Eject the USB HDD, you reinstalled CBT, correct? After reinstalling CBT and restarting, did the inability to Eject the USB HDD return? If it did, then the issue is most likely the updated CBT driver.

Yes, I've just checked that. After reinstalling CBT I can no longer eject the usb HDD.

Thanks for doing that! That pretty much narrows down the problem. It's most likely the updated CBT driver in 8.1. The Reflect developers can really use that info. @Nick Just drawing a developer's attention to this as it is probably the vector to check for the USB HDD issue of not being able to Eject devices on 8.1.
