PC does not boot anymore after 8.1 upgrade

Hello,

I was using Macrium Reflect 8.0 without issues on Windows 10 22H2 and today I was prompted to upgrade to version 8.1. I went through its installer while leaving all default options enabled and tried rebooting the system as prompted.
Unfortunately, the system cannot boot anymore. The Windows 10 boot screen always changes to a "Preparing automatic repair" and then to a PC diagnosis, which fails. Even a safe boot results in the same issue.

What can be done to solve this issue? The PC is using UEFI boot from a GPT-formatted SATA SSD.

I have not been able to reproduce that behavior on a Windows 10 laptop.  Installation and reboot went smoothly.  I am in the process of creating an image of a Windows 10 desktop and will attempt an upgrade once the image completes.

Looks like that update has been pulled.  Reflect now says "No Updates Available".

The same here. v.8.1.7280 results in Bad_Pool_Header BSOD. Only Win 11's "self-healing" System Restore can fix this.

I haven't updated yet.  I won't until after the morning Daily backup runs in 2 hours.  I'll report back if I experience the same issue.


In the meantime, it does seem to hit people on Windows 10 and 11 as it has been reported on both flavors of the OS.  I have Win 11, just to make note.

Did it show you that BSOD on screen or did you look for it inside some logs, because it immediately goes for me into that diagnosis mode without showing an explicit error message?
I have a system restore point from yesterday (afair an Nvidia driver update) but I am not sure if that is the same as your Win11 "self-healing" system restore. I also have a backup of my boot drive from this morning but maybe we get lucky and support finds an easier fix?

After rebooting about 2-3 times, I used "Fix startup problems" under "Advanced options". I guess this is running System Restore. Once Windows was running again, Macrium offered its update again, so I guess that's what Win 11's fixing does. It also restored an older version of another recently updated program.
