In the standalone edition or MR it's possible to configure emails per job, including the recipient, subject, and content. I *really* wish Site Manager offered similar functionality, since this would make it possible to monitor Site Manager backups using third party tools.

In my specific case, I've set up healthchecks.io to monitor various other types of backups that I have set up (backups of NAS-s & Ubuntu servers), as well as databases, ticketing and other platforms, etc. I wish I could also monitor my Macrium jobs there. Healthchecks.io works like this: you set up checks and configure when you expect that check to be "pinged". The check can be "pinged" either via an http request or by sending an email to a specific mailbox. Each "check" has its own email address. The subject line must indicate whether the task was successful or not.

So, for this to work, I would need to be able to configure the emails sent after each Macrium job separately. An example email would look like:

To: [email protected]
Subject: Macrium Backup of Computer-1 Successful

  1. I would have to be able to configure separate "To" addresses for each backup job.
  2. The subject must indicate whether the backup was successful or not
This is currently possible with the standalone install of Macrium, but not with definitions configured on the site manager.

I understand that services such as healthchecks.io are in a way competitors to Macrium's "Multisite" product, but having such a feature would make Macrium a more competitive solution because at the end of the day, MSP-s that need to monitor heterogeneous infrastructure will have to find solutions that can be monitored via vendor-independent services, such as healthchecks.io (but there are many alternatives).

I am currently evaluating Site Manager for migrating our existing workstation backups away from Backup Exec, and also was wondering if this was an option.  In our scenario, its a bit less complex -- we need to be able to send backup completion notifications to the users of the workstations we are backing up.  From what I can tell, it seems email notifications for all jobs go out to all recipients in the list defined in SM settings..

We have one more request regarding emails: we wish that the summary email could be configured to be sent only once a week. Having a summary email once a day is in some cases unnecessary and too much.

Thanks for considering our suggestions - and it'd be nice if someone from Macrium would reply...

Hi,
I'm not sure how we missed replying to the first request - my apologies!
We've definitely got improving our email configuration as something to sort out in our roadmap - we're currently preparing to release Site Manager 8, but once that has been done, we'll be able to look into the notification system in more detail. We've just released some features in our MultiSite product to allow notification emails with configurable subjects, these will likely be ported into Site Manager, allowing subject lines like:
Site Manager {$SiteName} - {$ComputerName} {$EventName} {Failure: $Error}

Allowing different notifications (or recipients) for different notifications is also something we have on our roadmap, although this is in the earlier stages of planning and design. Site Manager 8 introduces a tag system where agents can be tagged with user defined tags and automatic tags (Backup Definition membership, Active Directory OU and more). We are currently thinking of adding alternate subjects, recipients or disabling notifications based on tags (for example, to only send notifications for a specific backup definition, or to send notifications for different departments to different addresses depending on Active directory OU).

Adding a day of week filter or weekly option for email summaries is a good suggestion - I will add it to our feature request list. We would extend the time period so that it covered the time since last summary email.

Kind Regards,

Alex

Thanks Alex for the reply, it's great to see Macrium evolving! It really is such a great product, almost perfect at what it does without all the bloat of many other solutions.
