I am getting:

Error 1117 - disk read error

This apparently means that the disk that I am trying to image, C:, has an read error.

However, I have run

  chkdsk c: /r /f

several times and it is reporting no errors.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Try booting into rescue environment and attempt an image backup from there.

Also, if you have a HD utility provided by the disk manufacturer, run that and see what the results are.  I have Seagate internal drives which come with such a utility.

EDIT:  If you're not sure who the manufacturer is of your internal disks, you might consider downloading Speccy.  It is a free utility that is used to identify many of the operating components in your computer.

I booted to the rescue environment.  However, none of my attached USB hard disks (where I would save the image to) are showing up.

In regards to the source disk with the read error, can you try running the manufacturer's disk utility on it?

The source disk is a SanDisk SSD PLUS 1000GB (SSD).   I can find nothing from SanDisk (apparently now Western Digital) re a disk utility.

Update:  there is a utility called Dashboard.   It finds no problems with the drive.

Now the problem is that the rescue media environment does not see the attached USB drives...

While you are in the rescue media environment, see if PE Explorer can see the external USB drive.

PE Explorer does not see the external USB drives.

And, the plot thickens.   Running an Ashampoo Backup also produces an error and backup termination due to:  bad sectors.

Again, Windows itself, and multiple runs of chkdsk, report no disk errors.

Until this discrepancy is resolved, it looks like I am unable to make backups.

I should have asked earlier but what version of Windows and Reflect are you running?  Also, from within Windows can you see the external drive.
