Is it a wise policy to create new Definition Files after updates or will those created before updates suffice.

You don't need to touch definition files after updates.  To my knowledge, the Reflect application is backward compatible with definition files created by versions from at least a few years ago, possibly even the very beginning (not sure on that).  Typically the only time you'd need to update definition files is if you want to reconfigure something or you've made some changes to the source data that requires you to update the definition file accordingly, e.g. renaming/restructuring your backup source folders (or changing your partition layout in the case of image backups, etc.)  I would discourage unnecessarily deleting and recreating definition files.  It's just more opportunity for something to be done incorrectly at some point.

I think most of my definition files were created by version 4.x.  And they still work with version 7.x.


I know some of my definition files didn't work after a while because they supported functions that were consolidated elsewhere.  For instance, you used to could create XML files that specifically executed an Incremental backup when you ran it.  I think those stopped working (They were quite old.) because the Incremental function was consolidated into an execution drop down for Full, Incremental, and Differential backups.


About the only time you'd probably need to maybe update the definitions is after a Windows 10 Refresh.  It may have changed the size/location of its recovery partition, which might change your disk geometry.
