Hello - I'm in the process of preparing for a fresh install of Win7 (current install started life as an OEM) and have installed a "test instance" on an internal HDD different from "production" SATA SSD boot disk. Perusing the sevenforums site there doesn't appear to be compelling technical reason preventing everything needed for a clean boot from residing in a single partition rather the Win7 System/OS split. Apparently MS restore/repair functions also reside in the System partition but with Reflect I shouldn't need those anyway.
After the fresh install the most recent (and temporary) install in test was treated as primary with my older production environment treated as secondary, which , while irritating, is certainly no show stopper.
I used the Rescue Media Fix Boot Errors capability to see if I could get the test version to boot without using the production System partition leaving all options at default. Post-reboot the order of the install instances (is that the Windows "boot menu"?) the OS boot process presents now has my production environment listed first as default boot option, which is comforting (I think).
I expected to see the test install drive flagged as "Active" in Windows Disk Manager, but it isn't. Both of my bootable USB flash drives do show appropriately as Active. Per the user documentation I had understood that checking he four options would create a single partition bootable OS drive:
Why wasn't the test install drive flagged as "Active"? Did Reflect keep me from doing something silly or am I expected to set that status manually?
