Whenever I click the "test" button in email configuration, I get an email notificaton.  However, I never get one as a result of a scheduled backup.  I decided to start poking around, and found this:

http://knowledgebase.macrium.com/display/KNOW/Configuring+e-mail+notifications

Towards the end of the article, there's a section entitled "Email notification for existing individual backups".  Ah!  I have to configure the existing XML file for backup.  The article shows how to bring up the advanced settings, where I should click on the Email icon and configure email options, just as I did for my test email.

The Email icon is shown in the article as adjacent to the Backup icon - however, my Macrium client only shows the Backup icon. There is no Email icon.  What to do?

Dan

Correct.  The email settings under Edit Defaults configure the mail server settings that are used application-wide, and then you can also set the DEFAULT options for any definition files created AFTER you make the changes in Edit Defaults.  But those will not be retrofitted to existing definition files.

I just checked my own Reflect V6 interface and I can see the Email heading right next to Backup where it's supposed to be.  If you don't have that, try creating a new test definition file to see if it appears for that file.  If not, are you maybe using Reflect Free on this particular PC?  I know every member of this forum has to be a licensed user, but some members also use the Free version elsewhere.  Reflect Free does not support email notifications.

In Edit Defaults - Email, have you set recipients in case of success and in case of failure?
You can set several addresses separated by semicolon ( ; )

Or, you can set recipients for a specific existing backup definition file: select the backup definition file, right click, Advanced Properties, Email tab.

As a last resort, you can edit manually the XML definition file.

I am using the paid version of Macrium V6.

In Edit Defaults - Email,I have my email address defined.  Here there is also a test button, and if I click that, I get an email.  Not when my scheduled backup completes, however.

>>Or, you can set recipients for a specific existing backup definition file: select the backup definition file, right click, Advanced Properties, Email tab.

That's my problem.  I choose advanced properties, and there is no email tab, just backup:

>> As a last resort, you can edit manually the XML definition file.

That would work for me.  What are the XML statements to include, that would send me an email on success or failure?

A picture is worth a thousand words. Smile

It's because you're looking at a clone job. I just checked my own Reflect installations, and to my surprise, both the latest versions of V6 and V7 only allow email notifications for image jobs and File & Folder jobs, not clone jobs.  I have no idea why, and this might be worth a "Wish List" thread if you want it, but for the time being, apparently your Reflect installation is behaving as designed.

In this case, I don't know if manually editing XML would work, since the XML may no longer validate for a clone job, and even if it does, if Reflect doesn't even run the email notification code at the end of a clone operation, it would be ignored anyway.

OK.  But, what if I scripted the backup, and scheduled that?  When Reflect finishes, does it report its status in a way that would permit the script to email the outcome?  Has anyone done this, and if so, can I see a sample?

It seems silly that Reflect would care that it's an image and not a clone, but perhaps there's some technical reason.  Could the Macrium staff comment?

If you right-click a definition file, you'll see options to generate PowerShell, VBS, and BAT scripts that you can customize/expand. I'm not sure about return codes, but I think Reflect does provide them because Windows Task Scheduler shows them for the Reflect task. If you want to start scheduling the script, make sure to remove the schedule entries for the definition file and add them to the script (under the correct Scripts tab in Reflect).

Or as you say, I'm wondering if Macrium can just add support for email notifications in clone jobs, because that does seem a curious omission.

I tried and copied XML code for email from a backup definition file to a clone task.
I pasted the Email section into Properties, like it is in backups.
The clone task run successfully as scheduled, but no mail was sent.

If that is confirmed, I wonder what the reason might be. You could say clones are less frequently scheduled than backups, but then there is a schedule option for clones too, so why don't send a message in case of success or failure?

@shortmort37

Thanks for posting.

I'm afraid that there is no email notification option for clones. This hasn't been an issue before as clone scheduling is not a common operation. It has been added as a feature to be considered for a future release.

Kind Regards

Nick

Nick,
Would you be able to provide an update on the status of this enhancement request?
For context, I run a clone, in addition to either an image or file backup, on each of my machines nightly. I'd like to be able to receive emails when the clone operations fail, without having to log on to each machine and check their logs.
Note that I just installed Macrium Site Manager this week in hopes of being able to better monitor the status of the individual Workstation deployments. While I can see the clone operations in the console, even the daily Site Manager summary email doesn't show the clone results.
Thanks!
