Having read about the above "product" in your recent BLOG, I have a coupla questions...

1. Will this "product" be incorporated into Reflect as a feature or will it take the form of a standalone process?
2. Are we talking an extra cost option here?
3. Will it be available for/integrated into v6?

Depending on available answers, that's enough questions for now...

MIG will be available in the next two weeks and will prevent unauthorized modifying of Macrium backup files on local and USB volumes.

I'd like to add a decisive question:
4. Will "MIG" also safeguard the partition table (MBR or GPT) on USB volumes from being manipulated by ransomware??

From what I've read it will be incorporated into Macrium 7 home & will be a free update for those users entitled to it. Perhaps it'll also appear in the free version of 7 but not 6.

Since it appears its primary job is limited only to protecting its own IMAGE files, I would suspect it will not reach any farther into general System-wide RansomeWare protection.  I don't think it wants to become just another "general" RansomeWare application...

Hi All

Macrium Image Guardian will be a feature of v7 and not available of as a standalone installation. It will only be available in the paid editions of Reflect 7.  Image Guardian protects by preventing unauthorised access to all Macrium Reflect backup files.

Will "MIG" also safeguard the partition table (MBR or GPT) on USB volumes from being manipulated by ransomware??

The partition table isn't a target for ransomware as it's easily recoverable and doesn't affect the actual data on disk. It's the boot code, the first 440 bytes of sector zero, that can be modified to contain the ransomware encryption payload. The boot code is only executed on the booting system disk, not external USB drives.
GPT boot disks use the UEFI firmware to start Windows, and unlike legacy MBR, is 100% protected with Microsoft 'secure boot' which validates the digital signature of the boot code before executing.

Kind Regards

A Macrium blog post on 30 June 2017 announced MIG would be released in the next two weeks and today marks the end of this two-week period.  I'm excited to see this feature in action on Reflect v7!  Hoping for a big upgrade today - or at least very soon.

And btw, kudos to the Macrium team for keeping up with forum posts while preparing such an in-depth upgrade...

Why hasn't the update been released yet?  It's the end of July.

Actually I'm really happy that they seem to take the time they need! :-) Better QA one week more and break the deadline than having bugs, I know too many IT companys that work that way and releasing buggy software that causes a lot of pain.
