I don't understand how to install the CBT driver. I'm referring to this. Specifically :

Macrium Driver Tools
Macrium Driver Tools is a small Windows utility to install and monitor the Macrium CBT driver.

Installing MRCBT
To install the kernel mode driver select “Install CBT Driver” from the “File” menu.

My Macrium File menu, to my great delight, has only ever had one command : Exit. So, no "Install CBT Driver" there. Also, how many programs are we talking about here ? One ? Two ? There's no CBT Driver in sight, but where is Macrium Driver Tools, supposing this is needed ?

Your link is referring to the Macrium Reflect v6 knowledge-base.  CBT was a separate beta install in v6. 

CBT is installed by default in v7 and the v7 article is here:   http://knowledgebase.macrium.com/display/KNOW7/Macrium+Changed+Block+Tracker

Actually, I use Macrium v.6. I had read the corresponding v.7 help article, and noticed this :

Macrium Driver Tools can be found here: C:\Program Files\Macrium\Reflect\MrCBTTools.exe

But I did not find MrCBTTools.exe in my install folder of version 6. Which, incidentally, is in a custom location, and I upgraded from v.5 to v.6 from within Macrium, without uninstalling first. Might that have broken something ?

The KB item to which you originally referred is out of date.  It dealt with a beta version of the Changed Block Tracker (CBT) that was made available during a trial period prior to Reflect v7's release for downloading and installing separately.  That CBT beta version wasn't included as a part of regular Reflect v6 installations and is no longer available, but the CBT general release is now included as a part of Reflect v7.  If your v5 to v6 upgrade was very recent, you may be eligible for a free or reduced cost v7 upgrade, but you'd need to contact Macrium Sales about that.

'Fraid not, unless you upgrade again.  It may or may not be worth it depending on what you had in mind.  CBT is only useful when doing multiple differential or incremental backups during a single Windows session and I doubt that many home users would do that as a part of their regular backup strategy.

Really ? You mean launching Windows, appending several incrementals or differentials to the same backup chain, then quitting Windows ? If so, that's not my case (I'm indeed a home user), and you take away any regrets I might have to use v.6 (which I'm still in the process of discovering). I do make several backups in a single session, but that's adding to different originals (one image of the whole system, plus a few critical files I back up as files & folders). I hadn't realised, from reading the online help, that CBT's advantages were restricted in this manner.

Yes, that's it exactly.  CBT tracking is reset for each system restart so that it only accumulates data during a first incremental or differential run and only applies it to a second or subsequent run.  Whether it's of any real value in those circumstances is for each individual to decide, of course, but my own decision was negative.  Personally, I reverted to v6 after trying v7 briefly as the latter's introductory stability seemed a bit "wobbly" to me.  I may yet get around to it, but it's not at the very top of my software agenda.

That's the feeling I got after (briefly) browsing v.7 forum. It would really be a pity if reliability went downhill, since this is the basis of Macrium's reputation. Especially if the info I read is true, that v.6 support is to be unplugged soon (meaning access to the forum, and even online help).

I wouldn't be overly concerned about that official support cut-off date which applies only to direct (e-mail and telephone) support AFAIK.  I doubt very much that availability of the KB articles and forums will be affected in any way, at least not until long after that, and there really aren't many v6/v7 version-specific issues anyhow other than CBT and changes related to the using the task scheduler v2.0 API.
