My backup definition has a schedule with a NAS share and an alternative backup location on the originally Win 10 Pro machine. Every time and reproducibly, MR 7.0.2035 denies access to my NAS share with the message: Validating location: \\NAS\My Backup\Macrium Backups\My Volume\ - Invalid (Zugriff verweigert) (German Output for "Access denied").
After hours of testing with different NAS accounts, different directory names, different locations, different permissions, fixing VSS problems, I've figured out two ways to start the scheduled backups successfully:
- I give my backup directory on NAS share the guest permission - not a good option.
- I delete all alternative locations
on the MR backup definition: Then the scheduled backup task runs without problems and stores the image on the NAS.
At the moment I define an alternative backup location again, Macrium tells me, the NAS location is invalid, and the software wants to store on the alternate location. This is not the approach I am expecting to use an alternative backup location, in case the network is not accessible.
My backup definitions are now running without alternative locations.
A solution to use the alternative locations would be nice.
Thank you,
René

Can it be Macrium has a hard-coded workflow, which tries several times or longer to establish the connection if only one backup destination is defined? And if there are defined multiple backup locations, if the first choice is not immediately accessible Macrium is choosing the alternative without delay?

If this is the case, it would be better, Macrium would also try to reach the primary location several times, if there are alternative backup locations defined.

Too happy too soon. Until yesterday everything ran as expected. Today in the evening the scheduled backup writes again on the alternative location instead to NAS. There is also no icon in the system tray and the info window via CTRL + ALT + M is blank. There were no changes to my system.

I'm having a similar issue trying to backup to a network share located on a remote WIN7 Pro machine...Invalid location; access denied. Until this issue and the volume snapshot issue are verified as fixed I'm forced to revert back to ver. 6. I'm not at liberty to being a guinea pig when such glaring errors should have been fixed long before the product was released into production. If I were to make such a mistake I most likely would be on the unemployment line.

@nipstech

Thanks for posting. Sorry you are having problems.

Are you running the latest v7.0.2089?  This has resolved all issues with network authentication and in fact, is more robust than v6. The error "Access denied" is caused the network authenticated user not having sufficient permissions to write to the backup destination.

Kind Regards

The network authenticated user has full permissions to the backup destination. That was the first thing I checked.

The 'Access Denied' error is coming from the share. Please open a support ticket so we can request further information:

I'll do so as soon as I have the time to reinstall the latest v7 on a machine.
