I have a lenovo z5o laptop with an AMD 10 CPU and I installed a hard drive in the dvd slot using a dvd caddy.

When booting from Windows 10, I had to update the Standard SATA Controller to the AMD Sata Controller on order to see the HDD.

I create a Macrium Rescue Drive and initially it used its own SATA Winpe driver, and upon booting it does not see the HDD.  I then recreated the iso pointing the SATA driver to c:\windows\system32 (and sub folders) and it copied the AMD SATA driver successfully but still upon reboot, the hdd does not show.

Under windows, device management, the AMD Sata Controller Properties shows two driver files

c:\windows\system32\drivers\amd_sata.sys 

and

c:\windows\system32\drivers\amd_xata.sys 

When I go to copy the drivers, it only seems to copy the first amd_sata.sys.

This may be a red herring, but I include it as info.

So basically, any idea how I can make the Macrium Winpe enviropment see my hdd in the dvd caddy?


Edit: Oh - I just worked out how to do it - I had to click on update driver, and select system32 folder and all sub directries, and the it scamed and found a .inf file which I selected.  I can now see it the hdd in winpe environment.  I never got this to work before (home of free) but it works now!

  

Oh dear, now it has stopped working again. 

I completely uninstalled Macrium and all winpe components etc, and reinstalled fron scratch and it refuses to work now 🙁.

Can you download the SATA driver from Lenovo's Support site and extract it to a folder?  Hopefully it will actually extract driver files rather than just installing them directly, and among those extracted files should be an INF file in addition to other files like the SYS files you mentioned. That's the typical way to install/specify drivers, not just targeting your System32 folder. If you can find them, when you create the Rescue Media, point to the folder where you extracted the file you downloaded from Lenovo.  If you can't find what you need from Lenovo, I've used a free tool called Double Driver on occasion to generate a driver folder from a system that's running, complete with INF files, so that might work in this case.  If it still doesn't work, it's possible that whatever PE version you're using might be ignoring that driver believing that it has a more recent and therefore more appropriate driver built in from Microsoft, but I'm not sure how you'd overcome that other than maybe using an older version of WinPE?

(UPDATE: I think I found what you need.  Assuming this is the appropriate driver for your system http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/LAPTOPS-AND-NETBOOKS/LENOVO-Z-SERIES-LAPTOPS/LENOVO-Z50-75/downloads/DS100541, I downloaded that and ran the EXE to extract the drivers to the default path.  At that point, the storage drivers were under C:\drivers\AMD Win7 Driver(VGA, HDAudio, SATA)\Packages\Drivers\SBDrv\hseries.  I would grab the AHCI, MINI_IDE, and RAID folders, and in each one go to the W764A subfolder since that seems to be 64-bit.  Good luck!)

Thanks but I was given a simpler solution that has done trick ie create a win pe4 boot drive.  It turns out my bios is quite crap despite being upated last year.
