I'm in the process of restoring an image from the hard drive of an old WinXP-32 install from hardware to a vm (VMware Workstation) on different physical hardware. (After a hard drive crash and now a 2nd motherboard blowing up I'm DONE with that hardware.) I'm going about this by restoring an imaging through the Reflect Restore CD.
I just spent an hour trying to figure out why the Reflect software on the PE restore disk kept giving me the error "Loadfile failed," referring to the image file, when the restore process started. I was able to browse to the image file from within the PE Reflect software. I was able to mount the image and access files from within the image via the PE Reflect software as well. But the error persisted when trying to perform an actual restore.
I got frustrated and tried running different operations to see what would happen and finally ran across something (can't remember what) which errored giving me a message about running out of memory. Hmm... I checked and the vm was only set up with 512MB of memory. I increased that to 1GB and the restore process is currently in progress.
So first a question... Is there somewhere I could have found a log which would have indicated more precisely what caused this "Loadfile error?" And secondly, producing an error so cryptic was NOT helpful for me when trying to figure out what was wrong. I posted this in the Wish List forum because I wish this, and any other cryptic unhelpful errors produced by the PE Reflect software, might be a bit more descriptive to allow the user to more readily determine the cause of the problem in order to find a solution.
